Your Breast Clinic Appointment

Transcript

welcome to your breast clinic appointment. We understand that this can be a stressful experience, so we do everything we can to make you feel comfortable, and supported. When you arrive, our friendly reception team will check you in, and verify your insurance details. To speed up the process, it helps to have your pre-authorisation number ready before your appointment. During your consultation, the doctor will ask about your symptoms, and general breast health. They will also cover related topics, such as your menstrual cycle, breastfeeding history, as well as family history of cancer. You will then have a physical examination. A gown will be provided for your comfort, and a chaperone is always available should you wish. For many patients, no further tests are needed. However, if necessary, we may perform imaging such as a mammogram, or ultrasound. If you're under 40, an ultrasound is usually the first test. If you're over 40, you may have both a mammogram, and an ultrasound. If you've had a previous mammogram, let us know where and when. This helps us compare past, and present images. When you book online, you'll receive a questionnaire where you can enter this information. If an ultrasound reveals an abnormality, the radiologist may suggest a biopsy. This involves taking a small tissue sample under local anaesthetic. The procedure is quick, and generally painless, taking about 5 to 10 minutes. If a cyst is present, fluid may be drawn, and either discarded or sent for further testing. After any procedure, you will be seen again, and the results of all the tests discussed. We usually have a clear idea of what the problem is, and most patients are reassured there and then. A detailed report will then be sent via email a few days later. If your initial imaging is suspicious for cancer we will tell you, and discuss next steps. This will include arranging a follow-up appointment. If you have had a biopsy this will take 2 to 3 days for the results to come back. At our clinic, we don't just focus on breast health. We emphasise overall wellness, including gut health, lifestyle factors, and menopause support. You'll receive information on nutrition, exercise, sleep hygiene, and stress management. Breast clinics can be busy, and appointment times may vary. Some patients may require longer consultations, so we appreciate your patience as we provide the best care for everyone. If you have any questions after your visit, don't hesitate to contact us and if your symptoms don't settle let us know. You can book any appointment online via our website without having to call. Thank you for watching, and for trusting us with your care.
