Hormones and Breast Health
Transcript
Your 40s are a time of transition. For many women, hormonal shifts can bring breast tenderness, fatigue, and mental health challenges. But this decade also offers a powerful opportunity to build resilience through simple lifestyle choices. As early as age 35, women may experience fluctuating hormone levels—triggering symptoms like mood changes, night sweats, or breast discomfort. These changes aren't always signs of menopause. They often reflect hormonal imbalance. At a time when many patients are facing significant pressures in their professional and family lives. One of the most effective yet underutilised tools in managing these changes is Strength training. It's not just for aesthetics or athletes. It's foundational for bone density, energy, balance and longevity. Building muscle also increases your non-exercise activity thermogenesis. - your basal metabolic rate. So you burn calories more quickly, and reduce your visceral fat levels. Which, in turn, reduces the risks of many cardiovascular diseases. Strength training is most powerful when paired with a healthy diet and paying attention to macronutrient, and vitamin intake. Prioritise protein and fibre dense meals. Think of roughly 1.2 to 1.6 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. Protein will reduce cravings, requires more energy to break down, and forms the building blocks of melatonin, your sleep hormone. Ensure 7 to 8 hours of quality sleep. You can use magnesium, light boxes, meditation, and sleep aids to help you prepare for a great nights sleep. And carve out time to decompress by using reading, mindfulness or yoga. For hormonal breast pain, first consider lifestyle. Supplements like evening primrose oil, starflower oil, and vitamin D may offer relief. For more severe discomfort, vitamin B6 or topical anti-inflammatory gel can help. Building strength is not just physical, it is about being in control, building resilience and building energy. Breaking it down into regular consistent sessions will build confidence, stability to your joints and bring you energy to face the challenges ahead. The benefits for mental, physical and overall health are clear. So make exercise, nutrition and sleep your priority today.
